Important Lawn & Landscape Health Update: Increased Fungus Activity

The recent stretch of heavy rainfall, combined with the heat and humidity expected this summer, has created ideal conditions for fungal diseases in lawns and landscape plants. Our team is already seeing an increase in fungus activity throughout the area.

Bermuda Grass & Zoysia Grass

  • Dollar Spot – Appears as small, straw-colored spots throughout the lawn that can quickly spread and merge together.
  • Brown Patch (Brown Spot) – Causes circular brown or tan patches that may expand rapidly during warm, humid weather.
  • Pythium Blight – A fast-moving disease that creates greasy, water-soaked areas that can quickly turn brown and die.

Fescue Lawns

  • Brown Patch – One of the most common summer diseases in fescue. It typically appears as large brown circles or rings and can spread quickly during periods of high humidity and nighttime temperatures.
  • Dollar Spot – Small, bleached spots that resemble silver dollars and may eventually combine into larger damaged areas.
  • Pythium Blight – Particularly aggressive during hot, wet weather and can cause significant turf loss if not addressed promptly.

To help reduce the risk of disease, we recommend turning off your irrigation system or reducing run times over the next several days while soils have a chance to dry. Excess moisture can greatly increase fungus pressure on both lawns and shrubs.

If you are unsure whether your irrigation system is running appropriately, Earthscapes offers irrigation inspections and support services to help ensure your landscape is receiving the right amount of water.

If you notice brown patches, thinning turf, leaf spots, mildew, or other signs of disease, please contact us. We offer fungicide treatments for both turf and landscape plants and can evaluate your property to determine the best course of action.
